目前，中东地区正在实施的一些大项目主要有，沙特Ras Tanura炼厂的清洁燃料和芳烃项目、SAMREF 的清洁燃料项目、Riyadh炼厂的清洁燃料项目和etro Rabigh的清洁燃料项目，这些新项目将使沙特的汽油和柴油在2018年之前满足新标准降低含硫量的要求。科威特正在投资310亿美元建设Al-Zour炼厂，建成后将是中东地区最大的炼油企业。
此外，科威特还在对Mina Abdullah和Mina Al-Ahmadi炼厂进行生产清洁燃料的现代化改造。沙特和科威特计划通过这些项目增加200万桶/日以上的炼油能力。伊拉克计划在Karbala 、Kirkuk 、Maissan和Nassiriya投资200亿美元，到2017年使炼油能力翻一番达到150万桶/日。
计划在2020年底以前投产的中东项目，还有巴林Sitra炼厂扩能改造、阿曼Duqm炼厂项目、土耳其Izmit炼厂改造和 STAR项目、阿联酋Ruwaist和 Fujairah项目，总投资将超过400亿美元，使中东地区的炼油能力再增加200万桶/日。(陶炎)
