波罗申科周五(10月17日)与俄罗斯总统普京在意大利米兰会面，并进一步讨论了乌克兰东部地区的冲突问题。
此前，俄罗斯因持续两年多的供气价格之争，在6月中切断对乌克兰燃气供应。俄罗斯表示，乌克兰必须支付此前供气的大量欠债，俄罗斯才会恢复对该国供气。而对于天然气的供气价格问题，两国此前曾持续争执不下。
波罗申科周六在专访时表示。俄乌两国已就天然气价格达成了协议，3月31日以前的价格定在385美元。
波罗申科称，乌克兰国有能源公司Naftogaz资金不足，难以支付俄罗斯供气金额，而部分原因又在于亲俄独立分子控制的顿涅茨克和卢甘斯克地区消费者仍然欠费。他因而表示。乌克兰方面必须想办法解决Naftogaz购买燃气的资金缺口。波罗申科称，目前乌克兰方面仍有几个选择，其中就包括向国际货币基金组织(IMF)请求资金援助。
他表示，IMF工作组定于11月中抵达基辅，讨论调整对乌克兰的贷款计划。而下一轮燃气供应谈判可能在10月21日于布鲁塞尔举行。
